Anamizu Points of Interest
In Town
Places to Eat:
Smile (written in Katakana) – has the best ramen
in Anamizu. The signature ramen (smile ramen) is very
spicy and delicious. It is located across the street from
the Bakery, right off the 249 Highway.
Blue Train- has delicious cheap food like pizza and doria
(cheesy baked rice), but the owner doesn’t particularly
take to foreigners. If you don’t mind him talking
about you to others when you are three feet away, Blue
Train does have good eats. Use your own judgment (and
speak as much Japanese as possible). Blue Train is right
next to the station.
Free Style- around the corner from Blue Train is a great
place to have a cup of coffee and cake. They also have
pretty good spaghetti.
Manchen Bakery- has good treats for breakfast and also
doubles as a coffee shop. It is on the corner of the two
biggest streets in town (across from Smile).
Places to Shop:
Iroha- is a cute grocery market with liquor, too. While
the selection isn’t the best for food, it is close.
Iroha closes at 7:30 p.m.
The O-machi Strip of Anamizu is full of Mom and Pop retail
stores, snack bars, omiyage shops, a sushi bar, a liquor
store, the Hokokku Bank and more. It begins across from
the station and goes on for about five blocks. On this
strip is the Yoshimura store, which is a good teacher
supply store. The owners and staff are very friendly and
will practice their English in a refreshing manner. You
can order catalogue art supplies through them (which takes
about 3-4 days to come in.)
Out of Town
The Shopping Center and Surrounding Area:
(down the 249 towards Wajima and Monzen)
Komeri- Japan’s answer to America’s Walmart.
Komeri has cheap household products and film developing.
100-Man Volt- is the electronic store where you can sample
the massage chairs for free.
MovieTime - has movie and c.d. rentals and is also a book
store (no English books, though). You’ll need to
apply for a card to rent.
Shimamura- cheap clothing store- look for the out of season
sales.
Maguro-ya- the Sushi-train in town.
Hachi-man Ramen- Ishikawa’s own chain restaurant.
Discount store across from the Shopping Center (name?)-
has cheap import liquor and sake. Also has snack food
and variety of name brand beauty products at discount
prices.
